Earlier this year, Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), launched the ‘We Heart Cannock Chase AONB’ pack. This is a colourful guide aimed at organisers that are planning to hold an event within the AONB area.
The pack also introduced how groups and companies could achieve their ‘Proud to Protect Cannock Chase AONB’ certification.
In May Cannock Chase AONB was delighted to award Mash Running its Proud to Protect certificate, following its pledge to help protect the AONB when holding events in the area.
To achieve its certificate, Mash Running agreed to five terms, including:
• Seeking advice from the Cannock Chase AONB team when planning an event.
• Promoting key AONB messages in some event literature.
• Respecting the AONB before, during and after an event.
• Leaving the area as it was found.
• Making all staff aware of the AONB and its key messages during events.
Mash Running encourages people of all abilities to enjoy the great outdoors and hosts trail running events in the Midlands, including The Cannock Chase Series. The races are open to everyone, from first timers to established club runners.
Ashley Hodgkins, Race Organiser for Mash Running, commented: “Our Cannock Chase Series includes three events that attracts more than one-thousand runners each year. This is why it is so important for us to have as little impact on the AONB as possible.
“We want everyone to know what a special and magical place the AONB is. We fully support the We Heart Cannock Chase initiative and are committed to protecting this area for everyone to enjoy for years to come.”
